Potassium (K)

What is it?

Potassium is only second to Nitrogen in terms of the amounts needed for a growing grass plant.

How it’s used:

Used by the grass plant for general plant health, helps to improve tolerance to temperature extremes aswell as wear and disease resistance.

Timing:

Used all year round but in greater amounts out of the growing season.

Effects of incorrect procedure:

Unlike many other nutrients excess application of potassium is relatively harmless to the grass plant however we should always aspire to not apply more than is necessary.

Equipment selection:

Tractor operated or pedestrian fertiliser distributors or sprayers.

Practical tips:

Potassium  leaches at a similar rate to nitrogen in sandy soils so nutrient levels should be monitored to avoid deficiency.
