Why Repair?

During a game, a pitch wears leaving debris of soil and grass on the surface.  The concentration of wear is highest on or near the popping crease as bowlers land their front foot and batters mark their guard.  Furthermore, the creases will be scrubbed and removed.

It is important to repair this wear from match to match to maintain pitch performance, pitch safety and the ability of umpires and players to see the creases. 

Note that pitches should be cleaned/repaired in between days of multi-day format games but there are restrictions on what can be cleaned and repaired during a game however – check playing conditions / league regulations).

Overview of the Process

The following processes should be carried out between games:

• Removal of loose soil, grass, and other detritus.
• Repair of foot holes and guard marks.
• Watering if required.
• Rolling
• Cutting
• Covering to control moisture.
• Line marking
